Magnetic Press’ ‘Monte Cristo’ Goes Live On Kickstarter Tomorrow

by Brendan M. Allen

Magnetic Press’ world of Monte Cristo goes live on Kickstarter tomorrow at 9:00 PST/Noon EST. A revision of Alexandre Dumas’ classic 1844 serial tale The Count of Monte Cristo, the graphic novel tells a thrilling contemporary adventure story set in post-9/11 America. Monte Cristo is written by the creator of the Prince of Persia video game franchise Jordan Mechner and illustrated by Mario Alberti.

After nearly twenty years in a remote island military prison, Sam’s ailing mentor gives him a code that turns out to be worth billions in secret account balances. It’s enough to live a privileged life, despite the past, or a life confronting the injustices that put him in a hole head-on. Sam chooses the latter. But if he learned anything in prison, it was how to assemble a plan worth executing, no matter how long it may take.

With a cast of political jockeys and cavalier profiteers, the system will become not only the arena, but the jaws of the trap itself.

“Master storyteller Alexandre Dumas has been a lifelong inspiration to me in creating video games,” said Mechner. “I’m thrilled to have the chance to adapt and reinvent his classic The Count of Monte Cristo in a modern-day version with a dream collaborator, Mario Alberti. I can’t wait for graphic novel fans to meet Sam Castillo and Victor Sirin in this beautiful new English edition from Magnetic Press.”

There are several exclusive editions of Monte Cristo to choose from, including a Premium Hardcover Edition, printed on 120gsm uncoated woodfree paper and bound section-sewn between two 3mm cover boards, a limited edition die-cut cover, and a graphic novel that is available in two unique cover formats or as part of several limited campaign-exclusive “Executive Revenge” bundles.
