‘The Karate Kid’ Celebrating 40th Anniversary With New 4K UHD Disc

The Karate Kid is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a new 4K and Blu-ray release featuring VHS-style packaging and all new bonus content on June 18th.
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Ralph Macchio stars as Daniel, a New Jersey teen recently transplanted to the San Fernando Valley. After being bullied, he picks up some unusual martial arts training from an aging local handyman named Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki ‘Pat’ Morita). His training leads to a showdown with the Cobra Kai dojo and their star fighter, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) in a massive, rousing tournament. Winner takes all.
Directed by John G. Avildsen (Rocky), it also stars Elisabeth Shue, Martin Kove, and Chad McQueen.
The Karate Kid has been restored from the original camera negative, and is presented in 4K resolution with Dolby Vision in English Dolby Atmos + English 5.1 + English Stereo.
The 4K special features include a brand new commentary with Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the creators of the hit spin-off Cobra Kai. It also includes over 30 Minutes of deleted material and dailies featuring raw footage of unused scenes, plus a featurette and the original trailer.
The Blu-ray disc also includes special features more featurettes, and a classic commentary with Avildsen, Macchio, Morita, and writer Robert Mark Kamen.
The Karate Kid 4K and Blu-ray combo arrives June 18th.
