This story comes from Alex Schumacher, the creator of The Unemployment Adventures of Aqualung and The World’s Crummiest Umbrella. The graphic novel — released this week from Mango Press — explores the stories of a pair of siblings as they come of age and learn to cope with loving and caring for a loved one who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
Micah and Alana Gadsky are siblings preparing for their B’nai Mitzvah, when their family is devastated to learn about their grandmother’s degenerative illness. The duo’s opposite natures cause a rift between them and within their family when they need to be unified the most. Micah has to navigate their family’s new normal, and learn that he needs to lead with love as he becomes a man.
Blending humor and heart, this graphic novel explores self-worth, identity, and the challenges of living with someone with Alzheimer’s.
