WonderCon 2024: Bad Idea Reveals More Details On ‘Tankers,’ ‘Space War,’ And The Next Wave Of Comics

by Gary Catig

Bad Idea has a different approach when it comes to selling their comics. They only have specific shops that carry their titles, they don’t do variant covers or digital, and they don’t do many trades. Because of their unconventional process, not everyone is aware of the publisher. That’s why they are making the convention rounds to get their name out there with their latest stop at WonderCon 2024.

Currently, Bad Idea is pushing the upcoming Kickstarter for their comic Tankers. It is written by Robert Vendetti with art from Juan Jose Ryp. It takes place in a world where the fossil fuel supply is running low. The Big Oil companies decide to send an army back in time to prevent the comet that killed the dinosaurs extending the Mesozoic Era, and hopefully increasing the oil supply. However, things get wild and aliens become involved. Some new artwork was shown along with a backstory written by Vendetti and illustrated by Filipino cartoonist, Manix Abrera.

Bad Idea recently ran a successful Kickstarter campaign for Megalith from writer Matt Kindt and artist Lewis LaRosa. It is about a giant hundred story tall mecha-robot that is marching towards Washington D.C. with bad intentions. A regular beat cop named Officer Kevin Joyce leads a team to climb the robot and take it down from the inside. They revealed more artwork of the project.

If you subscribe to the Bad Idea newsletter, you have seen teases regarding their new series Space War. We learned a little bit more as well as looks at some interior art, concept art, and character designs. It is described as a futuristic storming of Normandy taking place on a frozen ice planet. We don’t even know the writer but the artist is Tomas Giorello.

The Hero Trade was the first comic that Bad Idea published. The panel was even celebrating the 4th anniversary by giving attendees a special convention exclusive copy. Well, the story is continuing with the next arc entitled The Hero Trade: Snatcher. This time around the creator’s roles will be switched with David Lapham writing and Matt Kindt doing the art.

We also caught quick glimpses to some of Bad Idea’s future titles. It was difficult to write down all the details since they went in quick succession, but we have pics of the majority of new books. There are some great creators attached including Joshua Dysart, Doug Braithwaite, Christos Gage, and Tyler Jenkins. Enjoy, and hopefully we’ll learn more about all these books in the near future.
