Euro Previews: ‘Amazonia Episode 1’ — More Fantasy From The Pen Of Leo

by Richard Bruton

The fantasy worlds of Leo are well known to readers of expansive sci-fi fantasy Euro comics with the Aldebaran series. Amazonia takes us closer to home, set on Earth and part of the Kenya series.

Amazonia is the second series in the Kenya saga from Brazilian writer and artist Luiz Eduardo, better known in comics as Leo. Writing with Rodolphe, Kenya introduced us to Katherine Austin, agent of British Secret Intelligence Service, whose mission is to investigate a series of mysterious sightings and incidents, all leading to a bizarre world of UFO sightings, living dinosaurs, and espionage at the highest levels.

Now we’re off to the Amazon, with Leo and Randolphe joined on art by Bertrand Marchal. Set in 1949, we’re back with Kathy Austin, now seen as something of an expert, albeit a reluctant one, in the weird and bizarre.

When a photographer crawls into a mission deep in the Amazonian rainforest and dies, with his films containing a shot of a man with skin white as snow and an elongated cranium, Kathy’s sent by the Crown to investigate. But just what is she looking for – some form of previously unknown deformed human or an extra-terrestrial being?

She’s soon plunged back into the intrigue and madness of the world she’s now firmly a part of, investigating the unknown, the impossible, and having to deal with all the threats of the espionage community – as it soon becomes clear that the British aren’t the only ones interested in what’s been discovered in the Amazonian rainforest.
