Like The Terminator, Dynamite will not stop. Of course, their mission objective is far more benevolent than the T-800s’ aim to end human resistance in an AI-controlled future.
The company announced Thursday that it has acquired the license to The Terminator. And in partnership with STUDIOCANAL S.A.S. — the owners of the franchise — Dynamite will tell new tales in the Terminator fictional universe and bring some classic comic book stories back into print just in time for the original film’s 40th anniversary.
“It’s incredibly thrilling to be working with one of the biggest classic action franchises,” Dynamite CEO and publisher Nick Barrucci said in a statement. “We’re excited to treat fans to a great celebration for the groundbreaking 40th anniversary of this beloved mythos bringing both new stories and collecting the library of existing comics.”
“We couldn’t be prouder of this partnership done in collaboration with our agent Creative Licensing, the amazing storyline and wonderful artworks by Dynamite are the perfect way to kickstart the franchise´s upcoming anniversary,” Valérie Rolandez-Barrios, STUDIOCANAL’s Senior VP IP Licensing and Partnerships, added.
The initiative begins with a campaign on BackerKit to bring some of those previously published Terminator comics into print once more. More information on just which comics will be part of the crowfunding effort will be revealed at a later date, as will additional details of the new series Dynamite intends to publish. In the meantime, though, keep an eye out for a tall biker with an Austrian accent who seems out of place. He just might be a robot from a dark fate.
