Review: ‘The Sensational She-Hulk’ #7 Is Dynamic Without Action

Writer Rainbow Rowell puts some very necessary exposition in the recap summary. Unfortunately, this means some of the exposition is repetitive in the actual story. There is also a slight reliance on reading the prior issues of this series to know what is going on. On the plus side, all the characters act with logical reasons. Rowell also does a fine job with the dialogue.

Artist Ig Guara and colorist Dee Cunniffe provide the interior visuals. Guara shows a great understanding of sequencing emotional beats in this issue. Another good thing is that Guara does not seem to rush any panels in this issue. Not to mention the art and colors combine very well in this issue. Cunniffe also does very well with ranging the colors while being consistent. Finally Guara and Cunniffe arguably create a dynamic feeling look to each page despite a lack of action scenes.

Letterer Joe Caramagna does a great job with placing the text elements. However, the omniscient narration may be too small for certain kinds of readers.

This issue’s regular cover is by artist Jen Bartel. It features an Jonathan Harts/Jack Of Hearts, Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk and an alien partaking of a pool setting. There is a nice sense of depth partly due to how characters respective respective positions to each other. While the gazes from both Walters and Harts suggests a steamy romance. Finally the color palette has a great sense of range.

The variant cover with the vampire theme is by artist Betsy Cola. Although the cover works thematically, it is a little busy up top due to all the text elements.

Artist David Nakayama is responsible for the other variant cover. Nakayama does a fine job with the color palette. Also the effect of the logo breaking is a nice touch. Though the design of She-Hulk may be too stylistic for some readers. Not to mention the slight leaning She-Hulk seems to be doing may deter the more critical buyers.
