Cheetara Takes The Spotlight In ‘ThunderCats’ #5 With Guest Artist Stephen Mooney

by Erik Amaya

Cheetara’s time has come!

Dynamite announced Thursday that ThunderCats #5 will be a special spotlight issue with guest artist Stephen Mooney giving regular artist Drew Moss a month off. Teaming with writer Declan Shalvey, the story — titled “Training Day” — sees Cheetara “putting Lion-O through the ringer, with some painful combat lessons as he learns to master his temper.” It will also offer some reflection on the story told in the first four issues of the series and “a pivotal moment in the ongoing saga.”

“It was a thrill and a challenge to be asked to come aboard a title that’s forging such a ferocious path right now,” Mooney said in a statement. “When the Cheetara-centric story was mentioned to me, I jumped at the chance, as she was always my favourite ‘Cat and I could already see several compelling ways to take her. Working with Declan is always a bonus, as we know each other so well outside of work and had plenty of opportunity to bounce ideas off one-another. He and Drew Moss have established such a compelling narrative in this book, that it was an absolute pleasure to come in and add to it.”

Mooney also joins the cover roster for issue #5, which includes contributions from Shalvey, David Nakayama, Lucio Parrillo, Jae Lee, Ivan Tao, and, naturally enough, an action figure variant.

Moss, of his part, returns when the second major tale begins.

ThunderCats #5 is set for release in June.
