New From Luke Pearson & Gosh Comics: ‘How Long Have I Been Lying Here?’

Luke Pearson, creator of Hilda, and Gosh Comics London are collaborating to bring some of his long out of print short stories decidedly not for children back into readers’ hands – How Long Have I Been Lying Here? — launching on FCBD — 4 May 2024.

Luke Pearson’s a Brit comics maker and illustrator who you might (and certainly should) all know from his delightful Hilda children’s series from NoBrow and the animated series on Netflix.

But you might not know that Pearson’s also a great comic maker whose work goes far beyond the all-ages wonders of Hilda. These very much not-for-children short comics appeared early in Pearson’s career in many different places, including Kuš and Solipsistic Pop, over the years before Hilda but are incredibly hard to get hold of.

However, not any more, not after 4 May 2024 anyway, as Pearson and Gosh Comics London are getting together for a very special collection of these earlier, more adult, very different comics from Pearson in How Long Have I Been Lying Here?: A Collection of Comics by Luke Pearson.

“These comics represent a relatively brief window of time, between 2010 and 2015, in which I was semi-regularly making work for comics anthologies. I would describe these as me trying out different voices, some of them perhaps trying to be something I’m not. Some of them I feel proud of, some of them make me cringe, some of them make me scratch my head and wonder if I still have any of that in me. I hope you find something you like in them.” – Luke Pearson

It’s a 60-page book that will give fans of Pearson’s work a look at a very different side of his comics, featuring a personally curated set of the short stories plus a gallery section of more of Luke’s artwork.

The book is launched at Gosh Comics London on Free Comic Book Day this year — Saturday 4th May — alongside an exclusive signed print. It’s exclusive to Gosh! and will only be available online and in store! You can pick up a copy here. Luke will also be signing any and all Hilda related books (that he’s had a hand in creating).
