Jumping On — Series Premieres, One-Shots, And New Story Arcs Kicking Off On April 17, 2024
by Brendan M. Allen

One of the most frustrating things about finding new comics to read and enjoy is finding a good jumping on point. It can be confusing and disheartening to pick up a single issue from the middle of an arc without having the context of the previous chapters.
With that in mind, here are a few New Story Arcs, Series Premieres, and One-Shots that caught my eye for this upcoming New Comic Book Day, Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
Featured Series Premieres, One-Shots, and New Story Arcs:

Blow Away #1, BOOM! Studios
Space, dark water, deep woods… These are the places that scare the shit out of me, and therefore set the scene for my favorite horror, murder, and mystery stories.
This one follows wildlife photog Brynne Brautigan as she sees something disturbing on the remote Baffin Island. An argument, followed by an outburst of intense violence between two nearby climbers. She may have just witnessed a murder.
Brynne begins a frantic search for the truth, but there may be more than the silent white of winter keeping her company…

Giant-Size Hulk #1, Marvel
It’s Hulk. And it’s oversized. Something, or more accurately SomeONE, has been stolen from the Green Goliath by a gruesome new threat with evil machinations in mind. Get out of the way, because the Hulk is coming through!
Also includes a reprint of Incredible Hulk #372, a high-speed action and heart rending drama for the ages.

Gargoyles: Quest #1, Dynamite
Gargoyles creator Greg Weisman teams up with artist Pasquale Qualano for an all-new chapter in the ongoing Gargoyles saga, with higher stakes than ever before.
After failing in an earlier attempt to gain control of the ancient magical artifacts known as the Original Keys to Power, Demona has set her sights on three New Keys that will give her the ability to make any human in her vicinity into her willing puppet. All that stands between Demona and world domination are Goliath and the Manhattan Clan.
