Watch out, ThunderCats, Cheetara is on the loose!
After a successful launch of ThunderCats, it was only a matter of time before one of the characters got a spotlight book of their own and, as Dynamite announced Monday morning, Cheetara is the one to break out into a solo title. ThunderCats: Cheetara comes courtesy of writer/artist Soo Lee and artist Domenico Carbone.
The story takes readers back to Thundera before the fall, when Cheetara was a “young woman with secrets” trapped in the Thunderan court. Stifled by that life of nobility, she longs to find a meaningful place for herself in the world and discover why she is receiving visions of the past and the near future.
“There are some very cool things about Cheetara that have been overlooked in the original cartoon, things that I really want to make the center of her story,” Lee said in a statement. “She’s also iconic and very strong, it makes sense she gets her own series. It’s a look into one of the most important supporting characters.”
Working alongside the ThunderCats writer Declan Shalvey, the ideas and themes explored in Cheetara will work their way back the main series’ lore. Nevertheless, the new series stands alone and can serve as an entry point into the world of ThunderCats.
Lee will also provide covers for the series while Sozomaika, Lesley “Leirix” Li, Rebeca Puebla, and Edwin Galmon provide their own take on the title character in their own variant covers for the first issue.
ThunderCats: Cheetara #1 is scheduled for release in July.
