The First ‘ThunderCats’ Collected Volume To Debut Exclusively In Comic Shops This July

by Erik Amaya

The wait-for-trade crowd will soon heed the call of the ThunderCats.

Dynamite announced Tuesday that it will release ThunderCats Vol. 1: Omens this July alongside the sixth issue of the ongoing series from writer Declan Shalvey and artist Drew Moss — who returns after one issue away from the series.

Taking its cues from the classic Rankin-Bass animated series, ThunderCats tells the tale of Thunderan refugees who make a home on Third Earth following the destruction of their homeworld. Upon arriving, they also find the heir to their throne, Lion-O, has grow up into an adult as they all slept in cryo-chambers. Although still mentally an adolescent, Lion-O is the only one who can wield the Sword of Omens and lead the ‘Cats on their new planet. Provided, of course, he can learn to be a grown-up.

The first four issues of the series set the stage for the new take on the ThunderCats adventure. Issue #5, meanwhile, saw Shalvey and guest artist Stephen Mooney turn their attention to Cheetara for a spotlight story. The five issues will be collected in the paperback edition Omens — which will be exclusively available in comic shops when it debuts in the summer. It’s the perfect opportunity for those looking to binge ThunderCats in a convenient format. Subsequent editions will be made available to shops and bookstores.

ThunderCats Vol. 1: Omens Direct Market Edition will be available in comic shops starting July 17th.
