In July, Orson Welles’ ‘The Lady From Shanghai’ Will Arrive On 4K

Orson Welles‘ 1948 classic The Lady From Shanghai is making a trip to 4K Ultra HD.
Welles plays an an Irish fisherman who finds himself drawn into a complicated plot of sex, lies, and murder when he’s hired to work on a yacht owned by a disabled businessman (Everett Sloane) and his stunning younger wife (Rita Hayworth, Welles’ real life wife at the time). The film is well-known for its dizzying Hall of Mirrors climax, and the fact that Hayworth cropped her famous long red hair into a short platinum blonde bob for the role and promotional work.
For writer-director-star Welles, the noir film’s pulpy twists were a change of pace after his prolific stage and radio career, and the more experimental leanings of his previous films, including the controversial, revolutionary Citizen Kane (1941).
For the physical and digital release, The Lady From Shanghai has been fully restored using the original camera negative and is presented in Dolby Vision. Special features include a commentary with filmmaker and Welles associate Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon), plus a conversation with Bogdanovich, and the theatrical trailer.
The Lady From Shanghai arrives on 4K Ultra HD July 23rd.
