Legendary Director Frank Capra Gets The Big Box Set Treatment As Columbia Pictures Celebrates 100 Years

The prolific career of Frank Capra, one of Classic Hollywood’s most classic directors, is getting the deluxe treatment as part of Columbia Pictures’ ongoing centennial celebration.
The massive box set, Frank Capra at Columbia Collection, includes 20 of his feature films presented in high definition transfers from original and existing elements, with nine of the titles being offered in 4K UHD.
The movies run the gamut from pre-code silent rarities to some of his biggest, Oscar-winning classics — with many of the earlier films making their debut on disc. Collectively, the set stars the legendary likes of James Stewart, Gary Cooper, Claudette Colbert, Barbara Stanwyck, Jean Harlow, and Clark Gable.
Frank Capra at Columbia Collection contains the following films, with 4K presentations noted:
So This is Love, The Way of the Strong, That Certain Thing, Submarine (4K), The Younger Generation (4K), Flight, Ladies of Leisure, Rain or Shine, Dirigible (4K), The Miracle Woman, Platinum Blonde (4K), American Madness, The Bitter Tea of General Yen, Forbidden, Lady For a Day, It Happened One Night (4K), Mr. Deeds Goes To Town (4K), Lost Horizon (4K), You Can’t Take It With You (4K), and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (4K).
Because it only covers his Columbia years the set does not include some of Capra’s films of the 1940s, namely Meet John Doe, Arsenic and Old Lace, and It’s a Wonderful Life.
Bonus features include several brand new audio commentaries from film historians, hours of archival material, and the feature-length 2024 doc, Frank Capra: Mr. America.
Several of the films will also be making their digital debut online and will be available to rent or own at various sites, including So This is Love, The Way of the Strong, That Certain Thing, The Miracle Woman, and Lady For a Day.
The Frank Capra at Columbia Collection will be available November 19th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
