Two New All-Ages ‘Spider-Man’ Series Target The Next Generation Of Readers!

As the father of a three year old, I can assure you, young kids love Spider-Man. That’s due in large part to the Disney Junior animated series Spidey and His Amazing Friends. This August, Marvel will be bringing fans of that series — and their older siblings — Spider-Man comics of their very own via pair of brand new all-ages series.

According to Marvel, Spidey and His Amazing Friends, for the youngest readers, and Spider-Man: Homeroom Heroes, for middle-grade readers, will serve as ideal introductions for fans of all ages to Spider-Man and the Marvel mythos in general. Based on the Disney Junior show, Spidey and His Amazing Friends will also feature bonus activity pages. Spider-Man: Homeroom Heroes will feature two 10-page stories per issue, in which Peter Parker tries to balance his high school life and his super heroic life as Spider-Man.

Spidey and His Amazing Friends #1, written by Steve Behling, will be on sale August 7th. Spider-Man: Homeroom Heroes #1, written by Steve Foxe with art and cover from Ariana Florean, follows on September 4th, wherever comics are sold.

Of course, actually hooking a new generation of readers will require getting comics like this in front of them. While kids whose parents are already bringing them into comic shops will certainly run across them, other kids who may be fans of the characters are less likely to stumble into a comic shop on their own. Hopefully, Marvel will take steps to get these comics out in front as large an audience as possible, even before the inevitable collected editions get them into libraries and bookfairs. Tapping into the specific appeal of Spidey and His Amazing Friends and the character in general is definitely a good first step.
