The Wait Is Over: ’90s Teen Comedy Favorite ‘Can’t Hardly Wait’ Is Ready For 4K

by David Lewis

Perhaps the best of the teen comedies from the late 1990s renaissance period, Can’t Hardly Wait is set to arrive on 4K August 20th.

Written and directed by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont (Josie and the Pussycats), Can’t Hardly Wait is one of those classic “Up All Night” movies, in which a significant amount of the action takes place in one night. In this case, it’s a high school house party on graduation day, where all sorts of zany movie stuff happens — including awkward nice guy Preston’s (Ethan Embry) endless pursuit of his dream girl, the newly single Amanda (Jennifer Love Hewitt). The rest of the core cast includes Charlie Korsmo, Lauren Ambrose, Peter Facinelli, and a scene-stealing Seth Green.

One of the film’s pleasures is its sprawling cast of familiar faces from the late Clinton Era. Watch closely for early performances from the likes of Jason Segel, Donald Faison, Clea Duvall, Selma Blair, and others. Plus cameos from Jenna Elfman, Melissa Joan Hart, and Jerry O’Connell.

The new 4K disc is scanned from the original camera negative and loaded with extras. It features eleven newly discovered alternate and deleted scenes, plus six previously released deleted scenes, the theatrical trailer, two audio commentaries featuring the filmmakers and cast members, a vintage making-of documentary, and an additional featurette. It also includes the music video for “I Can’t Get Enough of You Baby” by Smash Mouth, which is now stuck in your head for the first time in probably a very long time. You’re welcome.
