The Duck Is Worthy In ‘What If… Donald Duck Became Thor?’
by Tony Thornley
Marvel Comics’ team-ups with their Disney parents continue in September with the birthday duck himself. It’s Donald Duck’s 90th year and Marvel is celebrating with a second one shot: What If… Donald Duck Became Thor? #1!

With this week’s Uncle Scrooge & The Infinity Dime and July’s What If… Donald Duck Became Wolverine, Marvel’s little corner of the Disney multiverse is growing more and more. In September this unofficial trilogy asks an important question — is the world’s angriest duck worthy?
Coming from writers Steve Behling and Riccardo Secchi and artist Lorenzo Pastrovicchio the one shot retells the Mighty Thor’s first appearance in Journey into Mystery #83 with a Duckberg twist. When Donald accompanies Huey, Dewey and Louie on an archeological dig discovering viking artifacts, he bites off more than he can chew. The Stone Ducks of Saturn are preparing to invade Duckburg! Donald has to stop them, and the mysterious cane he discovered on the dig is just what he needs!
“When we saw the designs for the Stone Ducks of Saturn and The Destroyer we literally laughed out loud,” editor Mark Paniccia shared. “I can honestly say I never thought I’d see something like this in my career. I gotta pinch myself to make sure it’s not a dream.”
Check out the covers to the one shot from Pastrovicchio, Peach Momoko, Phil Noto and Thor legend Walt Simonson– and watch for the one-shot this September from Marvel Comics!
