‘Dragon Quest III’ HD-2D Makes A Return … With A Surprise

After years of waiting, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has made a re-appearance. This new game gives a complete makeover to the prequel storyline in the “Erdrick Trilogy”, which is the first three Dragon Quest games. The Dragon Quest III homepage gives a brief run-down of the game’s story:
“Years ago, the great hero Ortega bid farewell to his wife and child on a quest to defeat the villainous Archfiend Baramos. Ortega failed his quest, and Baramos still threatens the world. Now, on their sixteenth birthday, Ortega’s only child is summoned by the king of Aliahan and entrusted with a mission of the highest import: to take on Ortega’s quest, vanquish Baramos, and save the world.”
As much as fans were looking forward to this, though, the real surprise came at the end of the trailer. There, it was confirmed that Studio Asano would be releasing Dragon Quest I & II Remake in 2025. These games make up the rest of the Erdrick trilogy, taking place after the events of Dragon Quest III, meaning players can experience the entire story. From the looks of things, they also seem to be embracing what Star Ocean: The Second Story R did by combining 3D environments with pixel art graphics, to create a gorgeous new world that’s appealing to all fans.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake launches for Nintendo Switch, Steam, the Microsoft Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series on November 14th.
