Dynamite’s ‘Darkwing Duck’ Kickstarter Nears The Finish Line

by Erik Amaya

The Terror Who Flaps In The Night is about to reach his victory lap.

Dynamite’s Darkwing Duck graphic novel collection Kickstarter is nearing the end of its campaign with — as of press time — around 20 hours to go. Fully funded within minutes, the collection already surpassed $300,000 from over 2,000 backers. But there is still time to contribute and, as DW might say, get dangerous.

As previously reported, the initiative will collect the initial DW comics from the 1990s. Comprising three volumes, the vintage material will be joined by the 10-issue 2022 Darkwing Duck comic published by Dynamite and written by Amanda Deibert with Carlo Cid Lauro on art. The “Heroes & Villains” volume will collect the Dynamite Darkwing follow-up, Justice Ducks (written by Roger Langridge with Lauro remaining on art), and the Negaduck spinoff from Jeff Parker and Ciro Cangialosi. The third volume will contain the classic comics, starting with the initial 1991 four-issue series from Disney Comics and the strips printed in Marvel’s Disney Afternoon magazine. These stories feature the work of people like DW’s creator Tad Stones, John Blair Moore, and more.

Each volume will be available in both softcover and hardcover with tiers for the latter offering copies signed by Stones or featuring “original remarqued sketches” by Ken Haeser (limited to 500 copies). Other campaign incentives includes copies of Dynamite’s various Darkwing Duck titles in their original serialized format, limited edition facsimiles of the first issue from the 1991 series with gold and purple foil, and “deluxe lithograph and giclée prints of artwork, and commissioned original artwork from superstars Jae Lee and Ken Haeser.” And after hitting a $150k stretch goal, backers will also receive a limited edition ashcan of an upcoming Darkwing series.

Those interested in pledging can head over to the campaign page here. But act fast as the Kickstarter closes at 12pm PT on Wednesday, July 3rd.
