’90s German Thriller ‘Run Lola Run’ Races Its Way To 4K For 25th Anniversary

In that storied movie year of 1999, the German thriller Run Lola Run became an international arthouse sensation and drew significant acclaim. It’s now celebrating its 25th anniversary(!) with a brand new 4K edition.
Lola (Franka Potente) gets a phone call from her panicky boyfriend Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu), explaining how he’s lost a small fortune and is in debt to a vengeful mob boss. Now, Lola has twenty minutes to replace the money or lose Manni. But it’s not that simple, as writer-director Tom Tykwer turns the straightforward storyline into a twisty, “what if”-style film in which Lola runs her race across Berlin over and over and over with a different outcome each time. Tykwer would later lend his frantic, pulsating style to collaborations with the Wachowskis, including Cloud Atlas, and Sense8.
Run Lola Run is presented in 4K resolution with Dolby Vision in 5.1 DTS-HD sound. Special features include an audio commentary with Tykwer and Potente, a second commentary with Tykwer and editor Mathilde Bonnefoy, two featurettes, the music video for “Believe” (from the movie, not the Cher song), and the original theatrical trailer.
Run Lola Run arrives on 4K Ultra HD disc on July 30th.
