Inhyuk Lee’s Newly Unvieled ‘The Ultimates’ #2 Variant Reveals The Newest Member

by Tony Thornley

The second issue of Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri’s The Ultimates hit stores this week. With it, an unexpected new member joined the team, and artist Inhyuk Lee’s variant puts the spotlight on this new hero.

Spoilers for The Ultimates #2, out now, below.

The Ultimates continues to count down the eighteen months until the Maker — an evil Reed Richards that ruled Earth-6160 — returns from his temporal prison. In that time, Tony Stark and Earth-6160’s Reed have to gather a superhuman army to defeat the Maker. If they can undo some of the evil the Maker wrought along the way, even better.

The issue finds Captain America trying to reckon with a broken America, with the United States simply a memory, and a capitalist dystopia standing in its place. Their mission leads them to Washington DC, where a powerful superhuman is captive under the former nation’s capitol. This leads Cap, Iron Lad, Giant Man and Wasp into an all out brawl in the Rose Garden.

Who better to rule the White House then than Marvel’s most evil capitalist, Doctor Midas? But while Steve Rogers is determined to save America, he discovers that he’s about to in a way he doesn’t expect.

Surprisingly, the America they’ve saved is none other than America Chavez.

The Ultimates is an incredibly twisty book, with some smart sci-fi twists. It’s worth checking out, along with the rest of the Ultimate Marvel line.
