Brian De Palma’s Steamy Cult Classic ‘Body Double’ Is Turning 40 On 4K

Brian De Palma‘s Body Double is turning 40. To celebrate, the 1984 erotic thriller will make its 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray debut September 24th.

While house-sitting at a luxurious Hollywood Hills apartment, aspiring actor Jake Scully (Craig Wasson) begins spying on a young woman (Deborah Shelton) performing a bedroom striptease in a nearby building. But he’s not the only one watching. Jake quickly becomes obsessed with mystery woman, leading him to an encounter with pornstar Holly Body (Melanie Griffith), and introducing him to a sleazy underworld of adult films, double identities, and gruesome murder.

Drawing inspiration from various Alfred Hitchcock thrillers, Italian gialli, and his own Dressed to Kill (1980), De Palma is at his most De Palma-est here, combining voyeurism, gore, sleazy sex, slow-motion set pieces, Dennis Franz, and a killer synthesizer score from Pino Donaggio.

Body Double will be presented in 4K resolution with Dolby Vision in English Dolby Atmos + English 5.1 + English 2-Channel surround sound. Special features include newly added archival EPK Interviews with De Palma, Wasson and Griffith, the music video for Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Relax,” four featurettes exploring various aspects of the film’s production, a still gallery, and the original theatrical trailer.
