SWAG Adventures: The Impressive SDCC 2024 Edition

Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC) 2024 felt like a return to form following last year’s event held during a writers’ and actors’ strike. We’ve heard a little already about our Editor-In Chief’s experience and SWAG. You know on SWAG Adventures we like to find the best stuff at the con so here’s what we were able to pick up.
There were tons of freebies whether you were on the show floor, sitting on panels, or hitting up the activations outside the convention center. Hulu’s Animayhem Factory, Paramount+’s The Lodge, and #FXSDCC had fun activities and giveaways related to their fan favorite shows. We also attended almost every DC and Marvel comic panel and received so many SDCC exclusive variants. Posters are also a common item handed out and we have our share including some signed by the cast and creatives of Futurama and the Minor Threats crew.
Didn’t do much spending compared to most people, but you better believe once DC Comics revealed their new old logo, that we were going to buy that shirt. Then, the comics have a very Filipino feel from this year’s Accidental Aliens Anthology put together by former pro wrestler turned creator, Scott Lost, to several Filipino Komiks at the Hot Tropiks booth. It’s nice to be able to finally have access to these books in the US, but we might struggle a bit since we’re not fluent in Tagalog. As an added bonus, the creators of Melag and Kare-Kare Komiks were at the show so we could get them signed.
Speaking of signatures, we wish we did more considering the vast amount of comic creators at SDCC. We had the majority of our signed books done during Preview Night, but sometimes its quality not quantity — like meeting Daniel Warren Johnson, who won two Eisners this year, and The Goon’s Eric Powell. We especially enjoy the Goon remarque from Powell.
All in all, we had a great show, and SDCC proves once again that it’s one of the best events to collect SWAG.
