Well, this month’s been very quiet politically, don’t you think? Not like there’s been a general election in the UK, the President of the USA finally stepping down from re-election, a new Democratic nominee, a complete change in the dynamic of the US election… yep, nice and quiet…

A King above the law?
A ruling of the US Supreme Court concerned the federal criminal case against Donald Trump for his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss, finding that a President cannot be prosecuted for official actions taken within his constitutional powers as president. The limits of those official actions were left uncertain.
This prompted liberal Supreme Sonia Sotomayor to write, in her dissenting opinion that the president of the United States has been elevated to the status of ‘a king above the law.’

Pressure mounts on Biden to drop out as the prospective Democratic Presidential nominee…

The Trump assassination attempt…
Trump was shot at a rally in Pennsylvania, with the bullet passing through his ear. Tragically, volunteer firefighter Corey Comperatore died whilst shielding his wife and daughter from the bullets.
But the result of it was an immediate sense that the attempt effectively sealed the election…

Changing of the guard…
And then Biden made the announcement that everyone seemed to be waiting for, with Biden stepping down as Democratic nominee and Kamala Harris taking over… suddenly everything seemed to change. For a start, Trump was suddenly the old white man in the race…

The deaths kept mounting, the coverage keeps falling – such is the trouble with the news cycle. However, the Olympics did give something of a new twist to the coverage, plus we had the visit of Netanyahu visit to the US and addressing Congress…
