Gen Con 2024 : D&D Live Took Us Back To ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’

Gen Con 2024 has wrapped, but the wonders unveiled will ripple out into the gaming community for years to come. A ton of fans of Dungeons & Dragons, myself included, attended Gen Con 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana, this past weekend, and were treated to all sorts of surprises.
One of the biggest being that more than 3,000 fans were able to score an early copy of the 2024 D&D Players Handbook before its wide release on September 17th. This book is stuffed with all sorts of new spells, revised subclasses, new feats, and a total overhaul of the layout, making it easily one of the most accessible editions of D&D for new players that I have seen in my lifetime.
While I had to fly out early, I have heard there was also a live D&D game from Gen Con that featured Neil Newbon (Astarion) and Samantha Béart (Karlach), reprising their roles from the smash hit Baldur’s Gate 3, alongside the always delightful Brennan Lee Mulligan, wildly talented Anjali Bhimani, and stunning storyteller Aabria Iyengar. “It was so cool being in the audience when Aabria revealed Brennan and Anjali were both playing secret dragons in the D&D Live game,” said Jess Lanzillo, VP of D&D Franchise and Product at Wizards of the Coast. “Gen Con 2024 was such a celebration of the five decades of Dungeons & Dragons and a testament to the countless imaginations that have been inspired by this special community.”
The climactic encounter in the adventure titled An Astarion and Karlach Adventure: Love is a Legendary Action played out in Project Sigil, an upcoming 3D sandbox that I was able to preview at a pre-convention event. From the demo we saw there, Project Sigil is going to revolutionize the way players and storytellers use virtual tabletops and really empower fans to build their own D&D experiences exactly how they want to craft them.
