It’s The Endorphins: AirDesign USA’s Billy Longfellow Talks SEMA, Comics/Cars Crossovers, And More

by Brendan M. Allen

I got a chance to chat with Billy Longfellow, AirDesign USA’s Vice President of Design, about the company’s contribution to the custom car scene, the automotive industry in general, and the opportunities for crossover between car culture and comics fandom. AirDesign has worked with Carlos Molina on several of Projekt Cars’ comics and pop culture-themed custom vehicle builds, including my upcoming 2020 Silverado customization for SEMA 2024.

Billy opens up about his first comics convention in Albuquerque, and tells me how wild SEMA is going to be for my first trip in November. He holds his cards close to his chest about AirDesign’s SEMA ‘24 booth, except to let us know the vehicles will all be Toyota models. Since I know Deadpool/Wolverine is a likely theme for a couple 2024 Projekt Cars builds, I ask whether there will be a play on Toyota ‘Tacos” and Deadpool.

I also share the story of how a shopping cart ding on my fender turned into a full SEMA build. The answer is simply that if you hang out with Carlos enough, he will convince you to modify your ride. It’s just what happens.
