The ‘West Coast Avengers’ Assemble In New Variant Covers

This November, one of Marvel’s most iconic teams returns with some familiar and some surprising faces. It’s time a new Wet Coast Avengers assemble!
Written by Marvel superstar Gerry Duggan and drawn by rising star Danny Kim, the series will follow the end of Duggan’s Iron Man run. Tony Stark and James Rhodes have emerged from the ashes of the Fall of X and Blood Hunt ready to protect their west coast home. To defend the best coast, they’ll bring in some familiar friends, but also an unexpected reformed enemy. Spider-Woman and Firestar are proven and experienced heroes, but has Ultron really reformed?
“Redemption has been on my mind this year, and we’ll see who can be redeemed on the West Coast,” Duggan teased. “It’s a fun action story, but it’s also an Ultron tale – and one of my biggest Marvel swings yet. I previously had the pleasure of writing a pretty great horror story about Ultron wearing Pym’s face, and this is a very different tale with one of my favorite Marvel characters, in one of my favorite legacy titles in the city that has been my home for so long. Wait until you see what Danny Kim is cooking up. Find redemption in November in the city of Angels.”
The West Coast Avengers is one of the more iconic Marvel titles of the 80’s (and celebrating its fortieth anniversary this year). Unfortunately, more recent relaunches have failed to stick. Maybe with Duggan and Iron Man behind this series, we’ll finally see the Wackos return to glory.
Also, seeing a good guy Ultron will be interesting. Last year’s Avengers Inc did see a heroic version of the villain join Janet Van Dyne’s ad hoc Avengers team. I doubt this is the same character, since Jan isn’t joining this team alongside Ultron, but it’s possible. If it’s not that Ultron, it’ll be fun to see the story unfurl.
