Wizkids Raises Another Delightful Undead With The ‘Gholdako’ Mini!

Welcome to the table,
I really enjoy Pathfinder’s Book of the Dead. Any excuse to dive back into it, I’m going to take. My pals at WizKids have given me another glorious excuse.
The creature above is called a Gholdakos and it has a ton of loose ends that give a Storyteller a lot of ways to apply this to their table or work it into the game. The lore goes that Cyclops necromancers created them at some far flung point in the past using rituals and the corpses of other cyclops. What those rituals were is not specific, with the only real requirement for them to function being “sacrifice of numerous humanoids” whose blood was used to draw words of magic on the wrappings that shroud these creatures.
Now, regardless of their origin, these guardians are bound in undeath to serve as guardians of specific locations, items, artifacts, or even a person. Typically this was something they protected in life, and now are protecting in unlife.
It’s such a cool concept because you can apply this in a multitude of ways. The Gholdako could be guarding a graveyard that is full of evil undead warriors. If it is struck down, the evil undead could be raised to wreck house across the land. The Gholdako could be watching over the bloodline of a family, ensuring that they are not harmed because only they can keep an item that balances the world active. They could be guarding their haunted temple, where they stand eternal allowing undead to return to the land of the living to continue their works attempting to destroy everything in the land of the living.
There are so many places you can go with these creatures. That is what makes them a ton of fun for me. Versatility makes miniatures like this a big deal. You can buy one or two of these minis and then use them throughout the life of your game (or games) fielding them whenever you need a cool looking undead guardian because they could be serving in all manner of capacity, whether friend, foe, or force of undead fury.
