‘Elvira’ In 4K, Plus More J-Horror And Shaw Brothers Highlight Arrow Video’s November Releases

Make some more room in your physical media closet because Arrow Video’s at it again, scheduling some must-haves for fans of horror, sci-fi, and martial arts films in November.

First up, Arrow continues their deep dive into the Shaw Brothers’ seemingly endless catalog with the highly anticipated Shawscope Volume Three, hitting shelves on November 25th — which gives you a couple of months to finish watching Volume Two. This limited edition Blu-ray installment focuses on titles mostly from the 1970s and early ’80s. They include the One-Armed Swordsman trilogy; The Lady Hermit; Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan; The 14 Amazons; The Magic Blade; Clans of Intrigue; Jade Tiger; The Sentimental Swordsman; The Avenging Eagle; Killer Constable; Buddha’s Palm; and Bastard Swordsman. The ten-disc set also includes a music CD, and features brand new restorations and hours of extra features. Available in the US and the UK.

Arrow is also set to release the J-Horror favorite Tomie on limited edition Blu-ray November 18th, marking the first time it will be available in the format outside of Japan. Based on Junji Itō‘s manga series of the same name, it follows a high school student whose kiss can drive men literally insane. The UK exclusive includes new extras, including an audio commentary, interviews, an illustrated booklet, and a reversible sleeve.

At Close Range (1986) will also be released on limited edition Blu-ray in the UK only on November 4th. Directed by James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross), the 1970s-set crime thriller stars Sean Penn and Christopher Walken. The set includes commentaries, interviews, plus a reversible sleeve featuring new artwork, a double-sided poster, six art cards, and a booklet featuring new writing.

Next, Arrow brings you Elvira … in 4K! The vampy, campy, pun-crazy, horror hostess (Cassandra Peterson) jumped from the TV to the big screen debut in 1988’s Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, and now makes her 4K debut on November 11th in the US and UK. The release includes commentaries, a feature-length documentary, a reversible sleeve, a double-sided poster, and an illustrated booklet.

Also on Novemeber 11th, Arrow will unleash 2007’s The Invasion, starring Nicole Kidman and Jeremy Northam — making its 4K UHD debut in the US and UK. One of many film versions of Jack Finney’s 1955 sci-fi The Body Snatchers, it also stars Daniel Craig, Jeffrey Wright, and Veronica Cartwright. The disc possesses such extras as a brand new commentary and video essays, plus an illustrated booklet, reversible sleeve with newly commissioned artwork, and a double-sided fold-out poster. A limited edition Blu-ray will also be available.
