Head Back To The Doghouse With ‘Strontium Dog Search & Destroy Volume 4’
by Richard Bruton
More classic 2000 AD collections announced for 2025 as Strontium Dog’s reprint collection continues.

Johnny Alpha, always was, and still is, such a damn cool character, the good-looking, hard-as-nails mutie bounty hunter, always on for the next job, taking down the next big score, bad guys brought in or brought down for cold, hard cash.
The story was always simple – after the Great Nuclear War, the Strontium-90 fallout mutates the population. Said muties are shunned and hated by the ‘norms’, leading to a singular career path – become a Strontium Dog, the galaxy’s bounty hunters, where life is all about chasing the next score, in a hard and dangerous job almost guaranteed to kill you, often sooner rather than later.
And as I say, with Johnny Alpha, toughest of all the Dogs, you had a modern-day sci-fi hero who was just so easy to love.

Of course, given that the vast majority of the SD tales were down to the writing team of John Wagner and Alan Grant and the classic art of the much-missed Carlos Ezquerra, it was damn easy to love Strontium Dog. And with these reprints we all get to enjoy it all over again.
So, settle back, get the book when it’s out, and revel in this sci-fi western loaded with action but also full of social relevance with a world of inequality and prejudice.

Here’s what the 2000 AD PR has to say about this one…
“Warped by radioactive Strontium-90 fallout after the Great Nuclear War, mutants like Johnny Alpha only have one career option available: a hard life as galactic bounty hunters known by the ‘norms’ as ‘Strontium Dogs’. The Stontium Dogs patrol the galaxy, bringing trouble to the troublemakers.
It’s a hard and dangerous life where only the toughest can survive. Johnny Alpha – the leader of the mutant rebellion – might just be the toughest of them all.
This collection sees Johnny and his brother-for-life Wulf Sternhammer return to the Gronk homeworld seeking justice against a band of violent trappers – unaware that they’re walking into a trap…
Alongside “The Kid Knee Caper” and “The Killing”, this volume also contains “The Moses Incident”, in which a routine bounty takes a dark and sinister turn which changes Johnny’s world forever and sends him into the darkest parts of the galaxy. Will he be able to escape The Island of the Living Dead?”
Yep, it’s classic 2000 AD, classic Strontium Dog, classic Wagner, Grant, and Ezquerra. You know you’re going to enjoy it.
