Ahead of Wonder Woman 1984 (WW84) opening on October 2nd and after being delayed DC Comics are releasing a comic book tie-in. Wonder Woman 1984 #1 comes out in the U.S. Walmart retailers by Sunday, September 20 and only then makes its way to open and operating comic book stores and participating digital retailers on Tuesday, September 29. Will this prioritising of Walmart over their longer-time partners, comic book stores, reap the benefits of this movie book tie-in? And, if so, will this be, could this be the shape of things to come?
Still, it’ll make for a nice warm-up act as it’s been co-written by WW84 Associate Producer Anna Obropta. Joining her writing duties is Louise Simonson, with art by Bret Blevins, and is one of two stories in this one-shot.
“When a failed burglary attempt causes a hostage situation at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, Diana Prince is forced to leave her teenage tour group behind so that Wonder Woman can save the day! But will she be able to bring 10 gunmen to justice and get back to her tour group in time?”
The second story is written by Steve Pugh and illustrated by Marguerite Sauvage.
“In the ’80s, “greed is good,” especially if you have it all! A reckless mastermind has made the ultimate power move by stealing Wonder Woman’s golden Lasso of Truth, and it’s up to Diana and Steve Trevor to get it back before the worst happens!”
DC Comics also released a first look at interiors supporting this announcement:
