Meet ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ In New Prequel Comic Series

by Tony Thornley

Marvel Studios and Disney+ is bringing Spidey fans a unique spin on the web spinner’s early days in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Now before we swing into this world, Marvel Comics brings us a new prequel miniseries set in its world.

When initially announced, the series was presented as a What If…? — What if Peter Parker walked into his living room to see Norman Osborn instead of Tony Stark? Increasingly though, this seems to be a completely unique take on the Marvel universe, and not just a spin on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Debuting in December, the prequel miniseries will come from Christos Gage and Eric Gapstur. The series will introduce us to Peter Parker, his new supporting cast — which reportedly features a mix of classic Spidey characters and Marvel mainstays like Nico Minoru and Amadeus Cho- and the new takes on his iconic villains. We’ll also see some of his earliest adventures, all in the style and feel of this new world.

“I’ve had the privilege of writing a lot of Spider-Man’s adventures, both in comics and in the Insomniac video games, but one thing I’ve never gotten the chance to do is recount his earliest exploits,” Gage said. “And the exciting part about this book is it’s a brand new take on those formative times. While this is definitely Peter Parker, the Spidey we know and love, he’s got a new cast of supporting characters – including Nico Minoru, who you may know from Runaways – and some surprising twists!”

Check out two covers from the series- one from series designer Leonardo Romero and an “animation” cover and watch for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in December!
