‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ Celebrating 50 Years With 4K And VHS release

So begins one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Tobe Hooper’s original, low budget shocker The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is getting the deluxe 4K box set treatment to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary.
In the mad and macabre 1974 classic, a group of teenagers get lost in the rural Texas heat and run into a family of cannibals, led by the deranged butcher known as Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen).
The film proved to be a massive hit and inspired countless remakes, sequels, and imitators. It’s also been released countless times on various home video formats. But this release looks like it will top them all.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre box set from Dark Sky Selects includes a new 4K UHD edition of the film, a Blu-ray bonus disc, and an exclusive VHS copy of the movie.
The set will be housed in a giant chainsaw replica, which naturally makes a buzzing sound when you open it. So be careful and be sure to wear goggles.
Fans will also have plenty of bonus features to feast on, including four separate audio commentaries featuring Hooper, Hansen, co-star Marilyn Burns, and other members of the cast and crew.
Other extras include new documentaries about the film’s surprisingly enduring merchandising legacy and its restoration, plus previously released extras including a feature-length making-of documentary, a conversation between Hooper and The Exorcist director William Friedkin, a tour of the Chainsaw house with Hansen, interviews, deleted scenes, bloopers, trailers, and more.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is limited to 5,000 units and will be available October 1st, priced at a not-so-low budget $299.98.
