There are times when I question the relevance of Captain America. The super soldier in stars and stripes was created during a very different time and portrayed a clean-cut view of good vs evil with Cap punching out Hitler. Real life is hardly ever so cut and dry, and America is currently having to deal with overlap between militant patriotism and Neo-Nazi ideology. However, it’s wonderful to see how the icon of Captain America can be used for inclusion, acceptance, and celebration. Superheroes may be fictitious but the positive impact can be made real.
