Groundbreaking Argentinian Graphic Novel ‘The Eternaut’ Gets A Netflix Adaptation

The Eternaut is a science fiction Argentine comic created by Héctor Germán Oesterheld. After a deadly snowfall kills millions, Juan Salvo and a band of survivors fight against an alien threat controlled by an invisible force. The graphic novel has a stormy history of suppression and censorship. The visual iconography of the The Eternaut has been used as a form of political protest much like the Guy Fawkes mask from V for Vendetta.
I was first introduced to the fascinating history of The Eternaut via the YouTuber Matttt. I wanted to highlight this film because from the trailer many may write it off as another generic post-apocalypse. I hope that the movie adaptation does right by the source material and explores multilayered themes of the graphic novel.
