Storm Reveals A New Look With Her New Series

In October, Storm debuts, giving the Wind Rider her first series since 2015’s Secret Wars. With the series comes a new look that mixes some of the best of Ororo Munroe’s designs over the years.
Written by Murewa Ayodele and drawn by Lucas Werneck, the series will see Storm proving herself as Earth’s Mightiest Mutant. From the Storm Sanctuary in Atlanta, she uses her Omega level powers to defend the world from unimaginable threats. The first issue of the series puts her face to face with a nuclear meltdown and later issues will find her face to face with cosmic threats like Oblivion and powerful villains like Doctor Doom.
Werneck has gained a reputation as one of Marvel’s best designers. For Storm he’ll be adding some iconic new looks to Ororo’s main costume (which itself is inspired from her Hellfire Gala and X-Men Red looks), from armor, to cosmically charged uniforms, to some awesome out-of-costume clothes. In the second issue, the first of those debuts with a spin on her classic 90’s silver costume.
“Fashion is always one of the many tools that I reach for when looking for inspiration,” Werneck explained. “You can tell so much about a character through their clothes, and this kind of visual narrative is something that I love. Now you can imagine how excited I was when Marvel gave me the opportunity and space to work with the fashion of such an iconic character like Ororo.”
“I’m really trying to give her a sense of style,” he added. “I imagine her having this kind of goddess aura, but she also has so much humanity in her, so the challenge here is to translate all of the aspects that define her in the way she dresses, moves, talks—the way that she lives. I’m having so much fun, and I hope that the fans enjoy all the tiny details that we’re building for her along with all the surprises that we’re cooking in this series.”
