Kickstarting Comics: Forget Oasis, Welcome The Return Of Martin Bland In ‘Geezer’ #3
by Olly MacNamee
The big music news for me wasn’t the reunion of Oasis but the return of hapless hero, Martin Bland in Geezer #3 by writer Will Potter and artist Philip Bond with edits by Shelley Bond. I was never a fan of Oasis anyway. But, I’ve loved the first two issues of Geezer, so I’ll be backing the new Kickstarter campaign funding now, and already well past its initial modest target. And it still has the best part of a month to go!

“Blag the guestlist for this comic book charting the rise and fall of the greatest ’90s band you never heard of. Join Martin Bland and Geezer, his band of bickering Britpoppers as they return in an all new guitar-packed issue.
Booted back to Blighty and with a singer in rural rehab, guitar wunderkind Francis steps up to the plate. Can the band keep it together to record their debut album, or will the quarrelsome quartet become a trio?
Brace yourself for bust-ups at Blow Up, retching at Reading and a slap of full English. Plus! Britpop’s new power couple go public.”

The campaign pledges start at just $5 you can get a pdf copy, with one of the highest, for $80, offering you a physical copy of the comic book, the loot bag, an exclusive VIP wristband, and an original ink drawing by Bond. Plus at the time of writing it looks like it could hit its first goal soon. That will give each reader four more pages of comic!

Then there’s the add-ons. You could, for example, include CUD: Rich and Strange, Potter and Bond’s first music-inspired comic-book collaboration from 2017’s Black Crown Quarterly. Collected for the first time as a full-colour, 32-page US-size comic. Or, bag a t-shirt featuring Geezer lettering/art on the front.
