NYCC 2024: ‘Vampirella’ Reaches Historic Issue #675 In The New Year

by Erik Amaya

Who would’ve ever thought Vampirella would survive to see her 675th comic book? Dynamite certainly planned for it with writer Christopher Priest already looking ahead to the Daughter of Drakulon’s next publishing milestone: issue #700!

Just ahead of New York Comic Con 2024, the company announced details of the historic issue due out early next year. Following the events of “The Dark World” in issues #671-674, Doc Chary faces disciplinary review regarding the treatment of his usual patient. They all assume Vampi’s behavior is just a “vampire fetish-inspired paracosm.” The doctor knows better and sets out to tell the review board about the time she was held for a 72-hour psychiatric observation. People died during those three days, but was Vampirella to blame?

Joining Priest for this tale — an opportunity for new readers to jump on board and learn about the character — are artist Aaron Felizmenio and letterer Willie Schubert. The story also serves as an interlude as the next big story begins in issue #676 with Ergün Gündüz returning to provide art.

Supporting issue #675 are covers from Jenny Frison, Lucio Parrillo, Joseph Michael Linsner, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon. Additionally, Elias Chatzoudis offers up a variant of Vampi ringing in 2025.
