The Abhorrent Monster’s Lore Continues With Dark Horse’s ‘Frankenstein: New World — The Sea Of Forever’

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the Mignola-verse. Hellboy, B.P.R.D., Witchfinder, and anything else that knits together the strange and sorted past, present, and future history of the landscape of these books just brings me joy.
I was delighted to read and review Dark Horse Comics’ Frankenstein: New World and now I am doubly delighted to announce that a new title, Frankenstein: New World — The Sea of Forever, is coming soon.
Mike Mignola and his longtime collaborators, writers Christopher Golden and Thomas Sniegoski, and artist Peter Bergting are at it again with a new story, continuing the tale of Frankenstein’s creation. Joining the team for Frankenstein: New World is colorist Michelle Madsen and letterer Clem Robins. The four-issue mini-series will continue the ongoing lore set within the Hellboy Universe.
“I am ridiculously excited about this series! Hellboy’s world may be over, but its echoes ripple through the New World, as you’ll discover in The Sea of Forever,” co-writer Christopher Golden said. “There’s room for so many unique stories in this series. At the same time, Frankenstein and Lilja’s journey has a destination, and we can’t wait to bring you there!”
Since he first appeared in Mike Mignola and Richard Corben’s 2011 Hellboy: House of the Living Dead, the legendary monster Frankenstein has been an important figure in the Hellboy Universe. After the world ended, he even took it upon himself to help the last humans learn to survive in Hollow Earth before sleeping for one thousand years.
In 2022’s Frankenstein: New World a young girl named Lilja woke Frankenstein from his slumber for an epic quest to the surface world. Now, in Frankenstein: New World – The Sea of Forever, Lilja and Frankenstein continue to navigate the treacherous surface world, stalked by an ancient and familiar evil.
I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Until next time, I’m really hopeful we get some more far-flung future nods to things from the Mignola-Verse in an age long after Hellboy is gone.
