The Ultimate Marvel Universe Unfolds In New Connecting Variants By Josemaria Casanovas
by Tony Thornley
Marvel’s Ultimate Universe continues to unfold as one of the most interesting takes on the publisher’s IP ever. While most of it is familiar, the execution is completely different. With the universe reaching the end of its first ongoing year of publication, Marvel is releasing a special series of connecting covers to celebrate.

Artist Josemaria Casanovas unfurls his take on the Ultimate Universe, featured on the covers of Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men and The Ultimates, as well as the special Ultimate Universe: One Year In and the debut of Ultimate Wolverine. The covers start with October’s Ultimate X-Men #8, out this week, and continues through January’s Ultimate Wolverine #1, and homages the infamous X-Men #1.
There’s not much in the way of Easter Eggs here, but it’s a fantastic depiction of the heroes and villains of the Ultimate U, from the Japanese students of Ultimate X-Men, to Spider-Man and the Goblin, to T’Challa and Storm, all the way down to the Maker and several members of his evil Cabal.
