NEKCOM Games Presents A Glimpse Of Alt History Post-Apocalyptic RPG ‘Showa American Story’

Announced two years ago, 2P Games and NEKCOM Games have resurfaced with an extended gameplay trailer for Showa American Story. Described as a “end of the century romantic RPG fantasy ensemble period drama,” the title takes place in an alternate history timeline where Japan’s superior economic power allowed them to buy most of America. The result is a world that merges 1980s American and Japanese culture together for a game that looks like nothing we’ve ever seen.
The new trailer features glimpses of both story and combat, along with a boss villain who looks like if Fist of the North Star‘s Kenshiro found Captain America’s shield. For now, the game is considered a road trip RPG, where players hit all the major cities of America, from San Francisco to Las Vegas, but with the architecture shifted to resemble Japan’s late Showa era.
Everything about this game feels unreal, yet it’s apparently scheduled to launch sometime next year for Steam and PlayStation 5 in 2025.
