ICYMI: ‘What If…?’ Season 3 Trailer Asks “What If … It Ends?”

Disney released a trailer Monday for the third and final season of What It…? The Disney+ series has done a stellar job taking the classic Marvel Comics title and re-framing it for an Marvel Cinematic Universe audience. Sure, none of the episodes take place in the 616 reality, but the questions of the first season all stemmed from moments in the Marvel Studios movies. Season 2 went further afield and, if the trailer above is anything to go by, the questions of year three will include wild ones like “What If … The Avengers Were Power Rangers? and “What If … Shang-Chi Was In The Old West?”
Also, “What If … Storm Wielded Mjölnir?” is a pretty compelling ask.
But the most provocative question may come down to a group of Watchers claiming that the watch itself is near its end. What will become of Uatu (Jeffrey Wright) if he can no longer enjoy the infinite possibilities outside the Sacred Timeline? And what of the other Watchers? Do they just accept the time of watching has ended? And will any of this matter to a future Marvel Studios picture? Perhaps one featuring Uatu’s favorite family?
Naturally, What If…? leaves us with plenty of questions. Luckily, it’s wrapped up in great looking animation and the fun of seeing characters in new environments. Hopefully, this season will also provide an answer to at lease one of the questions posed above.
