Outland Entertainment Launches Fantasy ‘Cupcake Dragon’ Game And Book On Kickstarter

Outland Entertainment has announced the launch of Cupcake Dragon on Kickstarter. The campaign is for both a tabletop card game and a children’s book. 

The card game is created by D.W. Vogel and Drew Vogel, who partner with Aaron Palsmeier for the artwork. This is a loot-taking card game for all ages. Backers will play cards, collect loot, and feed cupcakes to dragons in a  2-6 player game that takes about 30 minutes per round. I was lucky enough to receive an early prototype of the game for review, and I can tell you we never played fewer than four rounds per session. (My gameplay review will go up in a couple days.)

In addition to the game, there is a companion children’s book written by Alana Joli Abbott and Jeremy D. Mohler, also illustrated by Aaron Palsmeier, which is inspired by the game.

All the design and artwork are complete for both the game and the book. Outland is raising funds to print them both.

Based on the card game, the book tells the tale of a gang of greedy bandits that rob a much loved bakery of its famously delicious cupcakes. In their quest to stop the thieves, two sisters seek help from a reclusive and reluctant dragon. 

Cupcake Dragon encourages perseverance and uses quality vocabulary words for emergent and young readers. It’s a great companion to the board game, but also works just as well as a standalone.

Backer rewards kick in at the $10 tier for a PDF of the children’s book. Hardcovers are available at the $20 tier. The tabletop card game is available for $30. There are various bundles, including one with the PDF, a hardcover, and the game for $50. Check out the campaign at this link.
