Advance Review: ‘The Tin Can Society’ #3 Keeps The Mystery

Writer/co-plotter Peter Warren and co-plotter Rick Remender continue to create an interesting murder mystery. There is a still full suspect list, but it does not feel wrong for this to be so. This is especially true due to how much of this issue has limits put on the amount of settings. Yet, the internal monologuing and conversations keep things interesting enough. If there is one problem than it is that there is almost too many words. Thankfully, it is only a case of almost and not definitely.

Artist Francesco Mobili and colorist Chris Chuckry come up with another fantastic look for cover A. The posing displays love, vulnerability, power. While the blood suggests a darkness beneath it all. As for the interiors Mobili does another great job, especially with the facial expressions and juggling the past and present. It is worth mentioning that Mobili and Chuckry add a nice blush-like shadow to the lead character’s face on the first two pages. Chuckry does a brilliant job enhancing the emotional atmospheres with the colors suggesting time and lighting.

Letterer Jack Marzan uses a style of lettering that possibly will evoke a pulp detective novel sensibility. This style enhances this issue due to what the particular story title is, and the feeling that things will not end well. The sense of dread would probably not come across to the same extent with another style. Marzan also does a good job at placing the text in a way that assists the overall narrative pacing. Also Marzan gets just enough panel space to not have to crowd out the art with Warren’s words.

Cover B is by Jeffrey Alan Love creates a powerful piece of art. However, it arguably does not fit with this issue’s events due to how dark in thematic tone the design is.

The Tin Can Society #3 is due out on November 27th from Image Comics and Giant Generator.
