Gift Guide For Gamers 2024: Found Familiar Coffee

For me, the holidays has always been about trying to slow down a little bit and reflect on what the year has provided. It’s a chance to enjoy sitting with a good book next to a tree decked out with glittering lights and just breathe for a little bits in an attempt to push back the horrors that haunt the corners of my anxiety filled mind.

I typically do this while enjoying a beverage. While I wish it was always something as cool as a cocktail made with dazzling ingredients, and trust and believe sometimes those are close at hand, it is, more often than not, done with a cup of coffee. In my case it’s a blender bottle so my cats can’t knock it over and it’s iced because I don’t have time to not burn my own mouth.

There are a ton of fun places to grab coffee from out there, but my favorite small batch coffee company is Found Familiar.

Found Familiar was launched back in 2019 with the intent to foster creativity and support those working within the TTRPG community. Each bag of coffee they sell helps fund artists, content creators, and projects all based in and around the TTRPG space.

Not only is the coffee fantastic, the people behind the screen are wonderfully giving individuals who are active in the TTRPG space and are always championing indie makers and artists. This makes them a company you can feel good about supporting.

First on the stack is my current favorite, Homebrew. This modern espresso blend works really well when you brew it cold meaning it fits perfectly into my preferred way to enjoy coffee. It has notes of cream, cherry, and brown sugar and at times, it tastes like there is just a hit of date in the mix. The art on the bag can come from anything in the Found Familiar library. Next on the stack is another favorite, Inspiration. Inspiration pairs well with pancakes and French toast, or honestly any baked good you may eat for breakfast. It’s smooth and works for both hot and cold brewing in my experience. The medium roast has notes of pecan, dates, and brownies, but the brownies do not come through as strong for me all the time. Nevertheless, it really works well for when we have people over for brunch and my mother in law has had it a few times and enjoys it. You can pick up a bag at this link.

The third in this trio of offerings I want to call out for you is the secret blend Thieves’ Cant. What is in it? I have no idea. It tastes like almonds and toffee with a slight fruit finish if you drink it warm but that mutes to almost non existence if you drink it cold. Why is it on this list? Because it’s rad!
