Operation: Monster Force Files — Crimson Moon Sleepwalker

The Forgotten King, a vile sorcerer pharaoh, has returned and is gathering mystical artifacts worldwide for some unknown sinister agenda. With soldiers falling under his grasp as undead zombies, the Pentagon turns to an unconventional solution. Enlisting monster hunter Declan Van Helsing, they open Tomb 13 (against the Van Helsing Family’s wishes) to unleash Count Dracula in order to pit monster against monster.

Thus, is born Operation: Monster Force, a new toy line collaboration between Big Bad Workshop and Fresh Monkey Fiction.

Thanks to the folks at Big Bad Toy Store, we here at Comicon were given some exclusive looks at figures from this new line of figures. After perusing the list of options, my eye was quickly drawn to the Sleepwalker Crimson Moon Division soldier figure.

A bunch of soldiers being controlled by “Xeiss” sleeping gas, which masks any pain, who are equipped with specialized beam weapons…I could not resist.

My overall first impression of the figure after sliding it out of the box was how solid it was. The various joints are pretty bendable, a bit stiff at first but they eased up, allowing for a couple of positions for posing.

At first, I found myself a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of accessories that came in a couple of bags with the figure. I wasn’t quite sure what any of them were in that moment. After playing around a bit and checking images of the figure it became a bit clearer. Most of it ended up being pretty intuitive, but I will say perhaps a little instruction page or such couldn’t hurt.

Our Sleepwalker soldier comes with three different heads, each of them unique. One of the heads has a space to attach the tubes which trail to the backpack accessory that ‘powers’ the weapons and provides that aforementioned gas. That head has a more face plate style mask while the other two have the old-fashioned gas mask style.

Both the big rifle and the smaller handgun fit into the hands pretty easily, though they do make the toy a bit heavier, causing shrinkage of the number of possible poses that can be achieved, without the figure falling over. It’s not a big thing because they come with a Monster Force grave plate that the figure can be attached to which helps give balance and firmness.

I liked the little beam accessories, and a wisp of smoke, which can be attached to either gun. As can a variety of tubes and connectors that go from the backpack I mentioned to the guns. Longer and shorter options are available for those tubes which is kind of nice.

Overall, the accessories and options are in line with this being a (un)common soldier type. I’m intrigued to check out more of the figures.
