The Game Awards 2024 Winners & More

The Game Awards 2024 have concluded and this 10th Anniversary show was nothing short of a spectacle. 2024 was an incredible year in gaming with so many new releases, sequels, and original IPs. This year, the lineup for Game of the Year was going to be a tough match between all the nominees, which did have some surprising games on the list. The Game of the Year nominees were Astro Bot, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Black Myth: Wukong, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, and Balatro.The first surprise was a DLC (Downloadable Content) getting nominated with FromSoftware’s Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree. Secondly, there was a remake on the list with Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Lastly, the biggest surprise was single developer LocalThunk’s indie rogue-like poker game Balatro making into the list for a well deserved spot.
The winner was Astro Bot with a well deserved win for Sony Interactive and Team ASOBI; they also took home 3 other categories.
Now, let’s talk more about how incredible this show was and the amazing trailers and reveals. Keep your eyes open for more in-depth looks at some of these games in the near future. The big standouts for me, personally, were Naughty Dog’s new title, Intergalactic; Turok: Origins, a new 3rd person co-op game in the long-running series; FromSoftware’s Elden Ring: Nightreign, a new co-op souls experience; Bandai Namco’s Shadow Labyrinth, a Metroidvania re-imagining of Pac-Man first seen in an episode of Secret Level which premiered earlier this month; and so many more that I cannot fit them all into one page. This 10th anniversary TGA was something truly special and you could see every single person who was there — from the announcers, guests, developers, and orchestra — were there to celebrate gaming and what it means to them. I would highly recommend that if you have not watched the full show to go give it a watch and just enjoy it; so many cool trailers, tearful speeches, and joyful celebrations were shared. A huge congratulations to all the winners and all the nominees.
