2024 PAX Unplugged: ‘Boreal Frostlands’ Preview

Welcome to the table,
At the 2024 Pax Unplugged there have been a ton of cool things to check out. WetInk has a slew of stuff, the Massive-Verse has a really rad card game through Pocket Paragons, and over at the Exalted Funeral booth, I found out about the already-funded-but-still-funding and pretty epic Hex-n-Screen entry Boreal Frostlands.
For those of you not looped in, Hex-n-Screen TTRPG is a roleplaying game format where the game world is developed or presented through a set of punch-out hexagonal tiles, essentially creating a map without a traditional game setting book or adventure. The screen part of Hex-n-Screen is the Storyteller screen that helps the person running the game unfold the narrative with additional adventure seeds and information about each hex tile drawn during the game. It’s a really cool experience and allows for some solid immersion if the table is vibing together.
Now, Boreal Frostlands occurs a Arctic themed setting filled with frozen dangers, mysterious ruins, and factions clashing in an attempt to survive the frozen world around them. With Boreal Frostlands we are introduced to new double-sided hexes that add additional chance to the terrain generation, giving even more setting diversity than previous editions of the Hex-n-Screen systems that have come before.
Helming this project is a talented team of creators, designers, and illustrators, including ENNIE nominated cartographer Kevin Cannon and setting writer Brian Yaksha.
What is cool is you can also grab reprints of previous Hex-n-Screen settings Undying Sands and Bottled Sea, both of which earned ENNIE nominations for Best Setting and Best Cartography in 2021.
