My Adventures with Superman Season 2
My Adventures with Superman excels at blending personal drama with action & adventure. The dynamics between Clark (Jack Quaid), Lois (Alice Lee), Jimmy (Ishmel Sahid), and Kara (Kiana Madeira) are a joy to watch and Brainiac (Michael Emerson) makes for a fantastic new villain. I love how the show subverts our expectations of the Superman mythos. Honestly, this show is so good that James Gunn‘s Superman movie could faceplant and I wouldn’t care. Not only is this a great addition to a rich history of DC animated adaptation,s but this is the freshest contemporary version of Superman, period.
Creature Commandos
Creature Commandos is a bold and bizarre way to kick off the new DCU. The rag-tag team of monsters are just the kind of lovable outsiders that are easy to root for. Studio Bobbypills has crafted a vibrant animated world that blends the aesthetics of vintage monster films, European cinema, and gritty anime like Golgo 13.
Suicide Squad Isekai
Suicide Squad Isekai showcases the creative potential of DC characters and the anime fantasy genre. Harley Quinn’s (Anna Nagase in Japanese, Karlii Hoch in English) manic personality fits perfectly within the aesthetic. The creator’s take on the character is refreshingly modern but maintains her classic appeal. Tappei Nagatsuki (ReZero) really nailed the DC characters where many other creators have struggled with them. To have such an unusual combination turn out so well is cause for celebration.
