‘Transformers: Reactivate’ Cancelled As Developer Splash Damage Suffers Layoffs

Transformers: Reactivate, the latest game based on the popular Hasbro franchise Transformers, has been cancelled following a round of layoffs at developer Splash Damage. Originally announced at The Game Awards 2022, Reactivate was scheduled to have an open beta sometime in 2023 that continued to get pushed back with no real date or new information released. Finally, several months into last year, developers promised more news on the game in 2025, with a number of gameplay leaks giving fans hope more news on the game would be coming soon. Unfortunately, it was regrettably cancelled barely a week into the new year.
The developers have already released a statement on the game’s cancellation, citing a desire to scale down and “refocus on other projects”.
That these layoffs come at the top of 2025, just after last year where nearly 15,000 game developers lost their jobs is tragic. While “Survive until ’25” was the mantra for a lot of industries last year, it unfortunately seems like the gaming industry is still struggling with its volatile, ever-changing market.
